NEW YORK IS THE FIRST US STATE TO REGULATE SOCIAL MEDIA ALGORITHMS

The new law requires social media companies to get parental permission before showing algorithm-based feeds to users under 18. It also bans sending notifications about addictive content to minors between midnight and 6am without parental consent.

Kids can still follow any accounts they want, but their posts will show up in chronological order. The law doesn't apply to Google's YouTube, the most popular site among teens aged 13 to 17.
